Hello, my name is Lucinda and I am Emma’s mum.
I am sure you would want to check that this is a safe, legitimate site. So please let me give you some information on the background, ideas and hopes for this site and if you want to speak directly to me, please do not hesitate to contact me with your number and I would be happy to give you a call.
Emma has talked about saving endangered animals when she grows up ever since she was about 4. Her Uncle Mike is passionate about the plight of Mountain Gorillas and bought Emma a Dian Fossey book for Christmas. As I was reading it to her we started talking about how she could earn money to help save Mountain Gorillas. She talked about how she had set up a “club” a couple of terms ago when she asked her friends at school to join up and save endangered animals. Lots of them signed up, which was great in itself, but now we wondered how we could make it a little more 'real'. As luck would have it, Emma’s Uncle Mike also designs websites and that gave me the idea for this place.
Our hopes are simple:
- To raise money for important causes, whilst helping kids to learn about the animals in a fun way!
- To teach our kids that there is more to life than buying toys that they lose interest in so quickly
- To show our children that they can make a difference however young they are
- That by setting worthy challenges and achieving them, they will build self esteem and confidence for the future
We DO NOT want anybody to send money to us, as it is more important that the appropriate registered charities receive any money from you directly. Our plan is to make it as easy as possible for you to be able to do this by providing easy links to those organisations. One of those links will be to Emma's 'JustGiving' account, which will be set up to donate directly to the appropriate organisation, so that will be a very easy way for you to make your childs donation (and leave a message who it is from) if you don't want to set up your own account or donate directly. Whilst Emma's fundraising will be for a specific animal/organisation every quarter, a more generic list of animal charities can be found on the 'Useful Links' page under the 'How Can We Help' menu.
We would like to know how much the children have been able to raise, so we would love to hear from you, on an 'honesty' basis, letting us know how much they have earned and contributed. That way, we can keep a group tally and give the children a real sense of collaborative accomplishment.
If you want to encourage your child to do an educational challenge, like learning new words, to raise sponsorship money you may find this site helpful www.sparklebox.co.uk
We promise that we will NEVER pass your details on to any third parties and any links that we put on the site are to sites that we believe represent the most worthy charities for that cause or are reputable educative sites.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope it answers any concerns you may have, but if not, please do not hesitate to contact us, and myself or Mike will respond as quickly as possible.
We'd also love to hear from you if you have an idea as to how we could make this site more informative, fun and effective.
Thanks
Lucinda ( grownups@emmasendangeredanimals.org ) 1st January 2010
